Norman became famous above all for advertising posters (for Coca Cola, Mc Donald’s, cereals…) and covers of “The Saturday Evening Post” magazine.
His illustrations depicted American life/culture, with a touch of humor, irony, and naivety.
With his innate talent for drawing, he entered the Chase School of Fine and Applied Arts at the age of 14 in 1908. In 1910 he abandoned his studies and entered the Art Students League of New York.
From 1916 to 1963 (47 years) he collaborated with the magazine “The Saturday Evening Post” with more than 300 covers.
Since 1967 he for 10 years he worked for the magazine “Look”. He illustrated issues related to civil rights, poverty, the space race.
His longest collaboration (his entire life) was with the Boy Scouts of America. For the annual calendar and “Boy’s Life” magazine.
He illustrated novels by Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer, and Huckleberry Finn. He also painted numerous portraits, such as of Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.
Norman Rockwell styled some of the most famous advertising campaigns of the time. His works continue to be repeated and rarely matched and will remain a great inspiration in graphic arts.
